St. Thomas itinerary scene

4-day / 3-night itinerary

Four days on St. Thomas, from harbor streets to the east end

Arrive on the south coast, walk from Fort Christian into Charlotte Amalie’s stair streets, swim at Magens Bay, then give Coki or Sapphire and Red Hook the east-end day.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Charlotte Amalie, Magens Bay, and Red Hook lie on different sides of steep central hills.

Best length

4 days / 3 nights

One arrival day, 2 full days, and a realistic departure day.

Stay

Secret Harbour Beach Resort

An east-end beachfront resort with a pool, two on-site restaurants, and water-sports access on Secret Harbour.

Main activity

Charlotte Amalie, Magens Bay, and an east-end beach near Red Hook

Charlotte Amalie, a north-side beach, and the east end each belong to a different route across the central hills.

Pace

Arrival, harbor city, beach and east end, departure

Keep each full day on one side of the island and avoid crossing the central hills repeatedly.

Charlotte Amalie harbor and green hills
Charlotte Amalie’s waterfront, historic core, and stair streets fill the first full morning.
Magens Bay curving beneath green hills
Magens Bay is the north-side choice for a long curve of sand and a swimming-oriented morning.
Red Hook marina at the east end of St. Thomas
Red Hook brings ferries, marinas, restaurants, and the east-end shore into one evening.

Arrival

Arrive along the south coast and settle in.

Collect bags at Cyril E. King Airport, allow for traffic and steep roads, then choose dinner near the room rather than crossing the island again.

Day 2

Magens Bay in the morning, then dinner near the harbor.

Use the first full morning for Magens Bay, return through the north-side hills, and keep the evening around Charlotte Amalie, Frenchtown, or Yacht Haven Grande.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Lunch, shade, or a swim break

Move into shade, lunch, a museum, or the room rather than forcing another cross-island drive at the hottest and busiest hour.

Day 3

Give Charlotte Amalie and the harbor their own day.

Separate the historic harbor city from the main beach day so steep streets, cultural stops, lunch, and cruise pressure can be handled deliberately.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Lunch, shade, or a swim break

Move into shade, lunch, a museum, or the room rather than forcing another cross-island drive at the hottest and busiest hour.

Departure

Leave from the south coast without crossing the island again.

Keep the final morning near Cyril E. King Airport and allow for traffic, rental return, baggage, and screening.

9:00 AM

Departure morning

Choose breakfast, coffee, or a short walk near the exit route.

Leave generous time for traffic, fuel or rental return, baggage, and airport screening. Add a shore stop only when the airline and road conditions make it comfortable.
